Never Swap Horses When You’re Crossing a Stream
An adage often trotted out by political incumbents, particularly during a war or on the eve of a potential war, supporters of President Woodrow Wilson turned “Never swap horses when you’re crossing a stream” (sometimes heard as “Don’t swap horses in the middle of a stream”) into a campaign song in 1916.
